Jos is an expert on the functionality, use, and implementation of attribute tracking schemes such as the Guarantees of Origin (GO), the United States REC, and the International REC Standard (I-REC). He is currently involved with the CEN/CENELEC Standard that describes the way European Member States implement article 19 of the second Renewable Energy Directive (RED II). In addition, with his work within the Secretariat of the International REC Standard Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that enables the simplified implementation of reliable REC systems, he is frequently involved with governments, market players, and other stakeholders to build robust tracking schemes that help businesses with the procurement of renewable energy that is in line with best practices around the world (CDP, RE100) in terms of scope 2 reporting.

Having start his career in Vestas Wind Systems and having lived and worked in various EU countries, Gian has also gained experience in solar PV and Battery Energy Storage projects from Australia to Latin America. With a constant focus to increase the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix, Gian currently supports Hitachi Energy’s clients in renewables project development and asset management leveraging our automation solutions and leading our global initiatives helping to digitally integrate renewables into markets, grids and operation centers.

Experienced in all phases of project development from portfolio allocation to siting to pricing as well as in both acquisitions and divestures. He has worked for both small and large project developers and also spent time working with a large global renewable owner-operator. Joseph currently leads capacity expansion modeling on the North America Power Reference Case and most recently designed Hitachi Energy’s State REC Price forecast model.
